Our Blog has moved!

We are now located at House of Harrison. Net

See you there!

Time for a big change:

Date April 29, 2008

It’s been a while since I’ve posted and yes, I know, the etsy of the weeks aren’t being done. They will resume, I promise.

But on the change: I live in many worlds. I live in the fashion world, the handmade and indie world, the mom / partner world and at times, in the single in the city world… I know this is how most women live but for me it’s become difficult to combine them all in my little shop’s blog. It became a chore to try to find a way to mix it together without it being a hodge-podge of too many topics going on. With the site re-design almost done, (really, it is!) I wanted to focus on where I was taking the shop. It was a place for people who wanted to find that amazing vintage Balenciaga jacket circa 1970 and new must- have item as well. It still is going to be, too. But, most people don’t know that I also design and have for years. A while ago, I helped a good friend launch her own line for Barney’s New York and now it’s time I do my own. That’s where this is leading: House of Harrison is changing. More than just a change - it’s splitting off. We are launching a brand new site! Shop Lovely! It’s going to be fashion based with lots of great designer items as well has hard to find vintage. If you are interested in consigning, please contact me. We offer very competitive rates and will pick up in some cases.

House of Harrison is going to be re-focused into a different direction. We are going to focus specifically on handmade goods, single designer items and fair trade items around the world. It will start with my jewelry and handmade goods and hopefully branch out into other areas of the handmade world.

The blog will be changing, too. ShopLovely.net will be our fashion and design blog. House of Harrison is now focused on indie, handmade and small business creations. The blog isn’t going away. It’s just changing. I think change can be good. Very good.

So please join us on our journey! Won’t you?!

10 Gorgeous Spring Bags!

Date April 18, 2008

It’s a late start in the year for me to talk about whats coming up for Spring. But, my seasonal shopping coincides with my annual seasonal closet clean out. Since I was a little late this year it explains my fashionably late gorgeous bag post.

I always feel like shopping once the closets have been rearranged, cleared and cleaned. I found three Gucci shirts I forgot I owned, all black…. Note to self: “color, color, color.”

I don’t only shop high-end designer. I love the  well- crafted handmade, too -sometimes even more. I’ve  included some lovely handmade and vintage items, because that’s how I roll. :) You can click on the pictures to find your shop.

Summer beauty shopping

I love Sephora but generally don’t like the mall atmosphere. Seriously, the parking, the paying to park, the mall walkers. That’s a term I use to describe the uber - slow general bovine movement of shoppers in the mall. I hate hanging out. I like to get in and get out, which is why I so love mail order. Gas is 4+ a gallon and my time is valuable, isn’t yours?

So, my mailman knows me well. He even knows which items to hide from my husband-too many shoes!

Anyway, I shop at Sephora, gloss.com and skinstore often. I love skincare more than makeup and so to those who feel the same- like to shop online, that is; here’s a free shipping coupon code for you from Sephora, curtesy of http://www.flawlessface.net/

Use Sephora coupon code B388C2 for free shipping on $25 or more Sephora orders. Good until 4/30.

ENJOY!

Etsy of the week: Art Of Andrew Daniel

Date April 15, 2008

I wanted to focus on Art this week: Andrew Daniel’s gorgeous  are a real shot in the arm to those who need a punch of excitement and creative pleasure.

Each piece is joyous, colorful and exciting to take in. He’s also got a website with his extended portfolio which is also quite lovely.

Wouldn’t this look swell in a child’s room? Or in a foyer?

It’s just wonderful!

We missed last week’s etsy of the week but we’re back this week with one of my personal favorites. This etsy seller is  phenomenal: Unearthed.  The products are first-class luxury in exotic skins and sleek and simple designs with a lot of edge. On my personal list are the following:

We’ve got (new) mail!

Date March 29, 2008

Been away scouting around for a bit for a few days and upon return, wanted to share that we’ve gotten a P.O. Box for correspondence. Now, this doesn’t seem like much news but in L.A. it is. You see, in bigger cities there are wait lists. Looooooonnnnnnng wait lists for p.o. boxes. We’ll today, I must have been rolling lucky 7’s because we’ve been on the wait list at several post offices and I am not a fan of getting in line. Today, I roll in, with a spring in my step and a sunshine smile and thought I’d try just one more place. Alas, my very, very favorite neighborhood here welcomed me to their fine little office with just the very p.o. box we needed. Plus, on the etherial/spooky factor- it was the exact same box I had 7 years ago! hmmm.

Anyway, here it is:

Have a lovely weekend!

Etsy of the Week: Craft-O-Rama, Austin TX.

Date March 22, 2008

This week’s etsy of the week goes to Craft- O-Rama located in lovely Austin, TX. The shop also has a website, www.austincraftorama.com, which is colorful and vivid and makes for a pleasing, color-popping experience! I actually have first hand experience with this lovely shop. The shipping was fast, measurements generous and items were packed with loving care. I’ll be back to shop again and I hope you will, too! Scroll down because this weeks edition also showcases another etsy talent!

And if you are looking for even more craft goodness, look no further than Craftorama’s own Linda AKA, lindylou2 on etsy. I simply adore her tea towels and will be sending Mom a few very soon. This is gorgeous:

And what I find especially creative are her handbag sachets. I purchase a good deal of vintage and have the darndest time getting the musty, smoky smell out sometimes. What a lovely way of adding scented pleasure to your closet!

She makes kitchen goods, bags and an array of other items, too!

In Style: Style 101

Date March 19, 2008

instyle101stock.jpg

Style101 So perhaps I was a bit slow on the uptake but I came across this at a local newstand. There aren’t nearly enough of them on my side of town so when I visit, I tend to go a little nuts and come back with an arm full. Between Brian and I though, we’ve got way to many subscriptions! So, I picked up the In Style - Style 101 book, which at bookstores comes in a hardcover edition.

I normally balk at 101 - type style guides because they are either outdated or the rules are so hard and fast that they lack originality. Not so, here. I was quite pleased that they could pack so many subjects in around 150 pages!

Topics include everything from fashion to beauty to entertaining to home decorating. Very few books can adequately tell you how to spot good vintage and how to buy a sofa and cover the topic well- but this little gem does!

I bought two more as gifts from some friends. They are supposed to be on display in soft cover until May but my news stand is already sold out. You can get it here with free shipping in hardback now. Pictures follow below. Enjoy with style:
